Browser VPN (Android, package com.browservpn.apps)
Developer: Viorta · Contact: support@viorta.com

In short: Browser VPN has no accounts, and we (Viorta) do not collect, receive or sell your personal data, and we do not keep a record of the websites you visit. Your settings, tabs and unlocks stay on your device. To give you VPN locations, the app uses the OneConnect VPN service, whose servers see your real IP address and how much data you use, as every VPN server does. To show ads, the app uses Google AdMob, which collects some device and usage data as described below. The app is meant for people aged 13 and over.

1. Who we are

Browser VPN is made by Viorta, an independent developer. Questions about this policy: support@viorta.com.

2. Information the app stores on your device

The app saves the following only on your device:

  • Settings: what the VPN covers (this browser only or the whole phone), the search engine, the theme, the new-tab wallpaper and tile style, Block web ads, data saver, desktop site, "Connect when I open the browser", "Clear data when I leave", the last VPN location you picked, and the date you agreed to the VPN data notice.
  • Browser data: the addresses of your open tabs (so they come back after a restart, unless "Clear data when I leave" is on), and the cookies, cache and site data that websites store in the browser. Private tabs keep no history, cookies or site data after you close them.
  • Unlocks and progress: when Pro locations or Block web ads are open until, the steps you watched toward keeping Block web ads, a Pro theme or the new-tab styles, the day you last used the 10-minute Pro preview, your protected-days streak and the days you opened the browser.
  • Ad counters: when the last full-screen ad closed, how many ad breaks passed since the last one, how many were shown in the current session, how many reward ads you watched today, and whether an ad-free pass is running. They are used only to space ads out and to keep the daily limits.
  • The number of web ads blocked, and a cached copy of the list of VPN locations.
  • Files you download from websites are saved in your device's Downloads folder.

This information is not sent to us. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android Settings, deletes it. Menu > Clear browsing data deletes tabs, cookies, site data and cache at any time.

3. The VPN and other services the app connects to

The VPN (OneConnect). The VPN locations and servers are provided by OneConnect, a VPN service we subscribe to.

  • To show the list of locations, the app asks OneConnect's server for it. That request contains the app's package name and our service key, not information about you; the server sees your IP address, like any server you connect to.
  • When you connect, your traffic (only this browser's, or the whole phone's, as you choose in Settings) travels through an encrypted tunnel (OpenVPN) to the location you picked, and leaves to the internet from there. Websites see that location's IP address instead of yours. This covers everything the browser loads, in normal and private tabs.
  • The app's own requests do not use the tunnel, also while you are connected: ads, the consent form and the location list use your regular internet connection, so those services see your real IP address. This keeps the ads matched to your real country. Two exceptions: in "Whole phone" mode, the ad request that Google Play services sends for the app travels through the VPN with the rest of the phone, so the ad service sees the VPN location's address; and on a device whose Android System WebView cannot separate the browser's traffic, the app's requests stay in the VPN tunnel like the browser's.
  • Like any VPN, the server operator sees your real IP address, when you connect and disconnect, and how much data passes. Pages that use HTTPS stay encrypted between the browser and the website, so the server cannot read them.
  • The app itself keeps no log of the websites you visit and sends none to us or to OneConnect.

Before your first connection, the app shows a VPN data notice that explains this. You choose "Agree and connect" or "Not now"; nothing connects until you agree. You can reread or withdraw it in Settings > VPN data notice; withdrawing stops the VPN and the app asks again before the next connection.

Your IP address check. To show your own IP address and the VPN's, the app asks checkip.amazonaws.com (Amazon Web Services) for the address it sees when the app starts, after it connects and after it disconnects. The service only returns the address.

Speed check. When you start a speed check, the app downloads and uploads test data from Cloudflare's speed test service (speed.cloudflare.com), which sees your IP address (or the VPN's while connected).

Search and websites. What you type in the address bar goes to the search engine you picked (Google by default; DuckDuckGo, Bing or Startpage), or to the website you typed. Websites and search engines receive what any browser sends them (your IP address or the VPN's, the browser's user agent, cookies they set) and handle it under their own policies. Websites never get your location, camera or microphone through this browser. A file is uploaded to a website only when you pick it yourself.

Block web ads. The blocker checks each web address against a list stored inside the app. Nothing about the pages you visit is sent anywhere for this.

4. Data collected by third-party SDKs

SDK Data Purpose
Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob), Google LLC IP address (used to estimate approximate location); device and advertising identifiers (Android advertising ID, app set ID); app interactions (app launches, taps, ad views); diagnostics (performance of the app and the SDK, such as launch time, hang rate and energy use) Advertising, analytics, fraud prevention
Google User Messaging Platform (UMP), Google LLC Your consent choice and the identifiers needed to store it Asking and remembering consent where the law requires it
OneConnect SDK (OpenVPN for Android) Your IP address, connection times and the amount of data, seen by the VPN server you connect to (section 3) Providing the VPN connection

The AdMob and UMP data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and is processed by Google, not by us; we do not receive it. Ads are selected by Google, not by us. Ads in the app use your regular internet connection, also while the VPN is connected, so Google sees your real IP address, not the VPN's, except in the cases named in section 3 ("Whole phone" mode, or a device that cannot separate the browser's traffic). Learn how Google uses this information:

How ads appear in the app

Ads never appear on or around the web pages you open, never before you connect, never while you pick a location and never when you press Back:

  • An ad panel marked "Ad" (a "native" ad) on Home, on the new-tab page (never in a private tab), in the list of locations after the eighth free location, and on the session report below its buttons. It appears only when one is ready, in a space kept for it, at least half a second after the screen opens.
  • A full-screen ad only after a finished task whose result you have seen: when you tap Done on the session report or on a speed check result, or Continue browsing after clearing browsing data. A one-second "Ad break" notice comes first. At most one every 3 such moments, at least 2 minutes after any other full-screen ad, never in the first 2 minutes of a session and at most 4 per session.
  • Optional reward ads, only when you tap a button that states the reward first. You never have to watch one, and closing the ad early loses nothing you already had:
    • "Pro locations for 2 hours": opens all Pro locations for 2 hours (watching again restarts the 2 hours; they do not add up). At most 4 a day. Free way: 7 protected days in a row open them for 24 hours, and once a day a slow speed check offers a 10-minute Pro preview without an ad.
    • "Block web ads": on for 24 hours, and each ad is one step of 3 toward keeping it for good. At most 3 a day. Free way: open the browser on 10 different days.
    • Pro themes (Amber OLED, Fern): 2 ads per theme keep it for good. At most 5 a day. Free way: every 3rd day of a protected streak unlocks one.
    • New-tab styles (5 wallpapers and 2 tile styles), from the "New tab style" sheet on a normal new tab, never in a private tab: 2 ads keep every style for good. At most 2 a day. Free way: 5 protected days in a row.
    • "No ad breaks for 15 minutes" on the session report, after you have seen an ad break: pauses full-screen ad breaks for 15 minutes; ad panels stay. At most 2 a day. Progress toward a permanent unlock never expires. Reward offers are hidden while you are offline.

5. Permissions

Permission Why
VPN service (BIND_VPN_SERVICE, with Android's own VPN consent dialog) To create the encrypted VPN tunnel. Android asks you to allow it before the first connection.
Foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE, subtype "vpn") To keep the VPN running, with its notification, while you use other apps or the screen is off.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) To show the VPN status notification Android requires for a running VPN. Asked once, at your first connection.
Internet (INTERNET) and network state (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) To browse, connect the VPN and load ads; to check whether the device is online, so nothing is requested while offline.
Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) Used by the VPN library's scheduled keep-alive job, which Android stores across restarts. The app does not connect by itself at startup.
Advertising ID (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID) Used by the Google Mobile Ads SDK for advertising.
Ad services (ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_ATTRIBUTION, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_TOPICS) Added by the Google Mobile Ads SDK for Android's Privacy Sandbox ad features.
Wake lock (WAKE_LOCK) Added by Google's SDK libraries for short background tasks.

The app does not ask for location, contacts, camera, microphone, phone, SMS or storage permissions.

6. Your consent and choices

  • VPN data notice: shown before your first connection; reread or withdraw it in Settings > VPN data notice.
  • What the VPN covers: Settings > VPN covers lets you choose this browser only or the whole phone.
  • Ad consent (EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland): where consent is required, a consent message from Google's User Messaging Platform appears at launch, before any ad is requested. You can accept, decline or manage your choices; declining does not stop you from using the app. Change your choice at any time in Settings > Privacy options (the row appears when it applies to your region).
  • This policy and the Terms of Service: Settings > Privacy Policy and Settings > Terms of Service open this website. Without an internet connection the app shows the address, a Copy link button and our support email instead.
  • Advertising ID: you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings (Privacy > Ads, or Google > Ads, depending on your device), and manage ad settings at My Ad Center: https://myadcenter.google.com
  • Browser data: Menu > Clear browsing data, private tabs, and Settings > Clear data when I leave.
  • Contact: Settings > Contact support opens an email to support@viorta.com.

7. Children

Browser VPN is meant for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Ads in the app are limited to content rated PG or lower (Google AdMob maximum ad content rating). If you believe a child under 13 is using the app, contact us and we will help remove what we can.

8. Retention and deletion

Everything in section 2 stays on your device until you delete it (Clear browsing data, Clear data when I leave, uninstalling, or clearing the app's storage). We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to delete on our side. Data processed by Google AdMob is kept under Google's policies; you can reset your advertising ID and use My Ad Center. Questions or requests: support@viorta.com.

9. Security, international transfers, your rights and changes

  • Security: the VPN tunnel is encrypted; the browser loads only http and https pages (other links, such as mailto:, open the matching app only after you tap them), never lets a secure page load insecure content, and stops at certificate errors instead of continuing.
  • International transfers: VPN servers are in many countries, and Google's and Cloudflare's servers may be outside your country. Data is processed where those servers are.
  • Your rights: depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data, or to object to its use. Because we hold no personal data about you, most requests concern Google; we will help you with any request sent to support@viorta.com.
  • Changes: we may update this policy, for example when the app adds a feature or an SDK. The effective date above changes when we do, and the latest version is always at https://viorta.com/apps/browser-vpn/privacy
